Super Bowl XLIII put a glorious finishing touch on the 2008 NFL season, with the Pittsburgh Steelers winning a record sixth Super Bowl ring. The Cardinals, however, did not make it easy for them, and could have easily won the game had it not been for a few blown plays. But, it is all history now and online bookmaker BetUS.com has already moved on. Visit them today to check out their 2010 Superbowl odds: Pittsburgh Steelers favorite at 9 to 1.
BetUS.com's current favorites to win Super Bowl XLIV are, shockingly, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots, who are both listed at +900 moneyline odds.
Anything can happen in an NFL season and the most recent one certainly provided proof that the league is wide open. While the Steelers were considered a likely candidate to win Super Bowl XLIII, even prior to the season kicking off (+2000 moneyline odds at most sportsbooks), a number of other developments were not expected at all.
The Patriots, everybody's favorite to win Super Bowl XLIII at the start of the 2008 season, had their feet taken out from under them in week one when all world quarterback Tom Brady was lost for the year with a knee injury. Obviously, no one saw that coming, still, New England finished at 11-5, but out of the playoffs.
The Falcons, one of the dregs of the NFL in 2007, almost won the NFC South and qualified as a Wild Card for the playoffs at 11-5. Joining the Atlanta in the surprise column were the Miami Dolphins. Miami concluded the 2007 season at 1-15 and absolutely no one envisoned them becoming an 11-5 division winner in 2008, even with Parcells taking on a personnel position. However, they did just that with new Head Coach Tony Sparano at the helm.
While some teams rose from the ashes, a few favorites fell from grace in dramatic fashion. The Cowboys, everybody's pre-season favorite to represent the NFC in Super Bowl XLIII, finished in third place in the NFC East and did not even qualify as a WIld Card. Jacksonville was another supposed powerhouse that fell flat on its collective face this season after generating buzz with a strong playoff push in January of 2008.
As far as the Steelers are concerned, it would not be unprecedented for them to win back to back championships, after all, the franchise did it twice in the 70's. In all, teams have captured back to back Super Bowl crowns eight times in the history of the big game.
