Take a look down the stats package for quarterbacks after three weeks of pre-season football and the first team you’ll find with three different players in the top 50 is the Cleveland Browns. It’s convenient for Browns fans because all three are nestled right there beside each other, too. Similar attempts, completions, yards. Yup, it looks like Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn are falling right into place on the depth chart. SportsBetting.com has Brady Quinn at 10 to 1 odds to win the NFL Rookie of the Year.
Then go to touchdowns, interceptions and QB-rating and things start to get a tad complicated. Quinn’s performance during two pre-season games has raised the type of questions around Cleveland everyone was hoping he would raise and given Browns fans hope. Quinn is 20-of-31 for 236 yards and three touchdowns and while it still looks as if Frye will get the nod vs. Pittsburgh in Week 1, the rope has shortened considerably.
The task of choosing a starter is a “no-brainer” for Mike Tomlin in the Steel City, with Ben Roethlisberger coming into form at just the right time. Big Ben threw for 247 yards in his one half of work Sunday against the Eagles, including four passes of 20-plus yards, and that could conclude his work until the trip to Cleveland.
SportsBetting.com has the Cleveland Browns as 200 to 1 odds long shots to win the 2008 Super Bowl.
Week 3 of the exhibition schedule is in the books. Don’t expect to see much of the starters in the final week, although, as we point out above, there could be a few opportunities on the schedule.
