Five teams head into the Week 4 slate with perfect records and all of them, with the exception of the Eagles (bye week) and, possibly, the Patriots (no line yet), are expected to move to 4-0 this weekend. Opening NFL Point Spreads Week 4 from Bovada.lv has the Broncos, Ravens and Vikings favored at -3, -3.5 and -4 over the Buccaneers, Raiders and Giants, respectively.
Denver heads into its Week 4 meeting with Tampa Bay looking every bit the part of defending Super Bowl champion. Few expected that with the loss of some key defensive players in the offseason and the uncertainty at the quarterback position. But thus far the Broncos defense looks none the worse for wear, ranking in the top 10 in the NFL in both points and yards per game allowed and Trevor Siemian has compiled a 95.9 passer rating.
Even with the Broncos on the road in back-to-back weeks, the odds makers envision more success for the team this weekend going against what has been a sloppy Bucs squad (-6 turnover margin). Tampa Bay is capable of putting points on the board, though, when it is not shooting itself in the foot.
The Ravens have lived on the edge a bit through their first three games, but they are perfect nonetheless. However, Oakland may be Baltimore’s biggest challenge to date. The Raiders defense has been erratic, but it stepped up big in last week’s win over Tennessee. And it is safe to say Derek Carr and company are more capable than the Bills, Browns and Jaguars, the Ravens first three opponents, when it comes to both moving the ball and putting it in the end zone.
As for the Vikings, they continue to surprise in spite of significant injuries to key personnel. Minnesota scored a huge upset win last week in Carolina, knocking off the Panthers 22-10 as a seven point dog.
The Vikings will take on a favored role in Monday night, a position they have not found themselves in since winning their season opener 25-16 in Tennessee. Minnesota has played exceptional when giving points, posting an 8-1 straight up and against the spread record since last season.
NFL Point Spreads Week 4 Betting Trends:
The Steelers are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games playing as a home favorite coming off a road loss in which they scored fewer than 10 points.
The Rams are 1-6 both straight up and against the spread in their last seven games playing as an away dog after playing as an away dog in their previous outing.
The Over is 8-1 in the Raiders last nine games playing as a road dog after playing as a road dog in their previous outing.
The Under is 6-1 in Thursday night games since December 2010 when a road dog is coming off a home win and its host is coming off a home loss.
