The first quarter of the NFL season featured plenty of surprises, including the number of unbeaten teams, and more than a few disappointments. Kansas City, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia were among those who failed to live up to expectations and the Dolphins even axed Joe Philbin as a result.
Week 5 represents a new chapter of sorts, but will it be the same story for the aforementioned clubs and others? The most recent NFL Point Spreads from Bovada.lv would indicate the Chiefs, Ravens and Eagles have something to look forward to this weekend.
Andy Reid’s troops will host the 1-3 Bears on Sunday and, in spite of their own unsightly 1-3 record, they are favored by nine points in the inter-conference clash. Baltimore, which escaped Pittsburgh with a 23-20 overtime win last Thursday, welcomes the team it used to be, the Cleveland Browns, to the Charm City. The Ravens are laying a touchdown in the divisional contest.
Philadelphia hosts fellow early season disenchanter New Orleans at Lincoln Financial Field this weekend. The low flying Eagles are lined as a 4.5 point favorite over the Saints. New Orleans has won and covered in the last three meetings between the two teams while Philly is 1-5 both straight up and against the spread in its last six games coming off a road loss in which it was favored and playing as a -4.5 or more home favorite.
As for Miami, it has a bye to get its disheveled house somewhat in order.
This week’s primetime games feature the Colts and Texans going at it on Thursday night, the Niners and Giants on Sunday evening and the Steelers and Chargers on Monday night.
Indianapolis, with what most believe will be Andrew Luck under center, is favored by 1.5 points; New York and San Diego, meanwhile, a laying seven and three points, respectively.
