The Indianapolis Colts visit the disappointing Houston Texans Sunday night in a matchup where both teams come off their BYE week, but Indianapolis left on a high note after handing Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos their first loss. The Colts hold a two-game lead over Tennessee and a three-game edge over the Texans in the AFC South division. NFL oddsmakers have the Texans as +1 point homedogs against the Colts with the total set at 44.5 points. Be sure to check out the SNF Preview and get your predictions in before kick-off.

The Colts (5-2, 2-1 V) Andrew Luck has guided the Colts to victories over the Broncos, Seattle and San Francisco – three teams with a combined 20-4 record.

Statistically, the Colts don’t impress; they rank 12th in offense, 20th in defense and are getting outgained by about seven yards per game. But Indy is more than just numbers. They have a mojo that seems to help them win close games. The defense, led by Robert Mathis and his league-best 11.5 sacks, ranks eighth with an average of 18.7 points allowed.

That leaves it on Indianapolis’ offense to get at least 20 points Sunday. They’ve done that in every game but one and should have some success trying to do so. Houston has struggled in the secondary this year, and the Colts just need to maximize putting points on the board in early possessions. They rank seventh in points-per game scoring 26.7 per game and have the eighth ranked rush offense.

The Texans (2-5, 1-2 H) undrafted free agent Case Keenum will earn his second career start even though beleaguered QB Matt Schaub is healthy. Keenum will be making his first home start but could face tough sledding due to injuries to the backfield tandem of Arian Foster (hamstring) and Ben Tate (ribs), which prompted the signing of three running backs on Monday. With Foster and Tate possible game-time decisions, Keenum will look to WRs Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins, who combined for seven receptions for 165 yards and a TD versus the Chiefs. Houston’s top-ranked defense (267.7 yards per game) lost star linebacker Brian Cushing (knee) for the season in the last game.

By the numbers the Texans rank eighth in total offense, 10th in rushing and lead the league in both total defense and time of possession. If they can just avoid the turnovers, they should have a chance.
