Tonight the NFL Network's Thursday night match-up features an old-school AFC West rivalry between the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers. Both clubs come limping into to this prime time contest and are largely playing for pride at this point. The game is scheduled to kick off at 8:15pm ET in San Diego.
Chargers Breakdown: San Diego is without question the biggest disappointment of the 2008 NFL season. While they have some competition for that title (i.e. Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints), no team with the talent the Chargers possess has performed as poorly. Norv Turner's crew is in second place in the AFC West at 4-8 and three games behind the Broncos with just four games remaining on the schedule.
The Chargers have dropped three games in a row and five of their last six. San Diego is 3-3 at Qualcomm Stadium this year and they are allowing 21.5 points per game at home.
Raiders Breakdown: Oakland is about where most people expected them to be at 3-9. The dysfunction of the front office has spilled over to the team's play on the field, but this is not a new development as the Raiders have displayed little upside for several seasons now. Last week Oakland was unable to build on their surprising 31-10 victory in Denver on the 23rd of November, falling at home 20-13 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Oakland is averaging 17.5 points per game on the road this year (three points better than their season average) and two of their three victories have been away from the confines of Oakland Alameda County Coliseum.
NFL Picks Betting Trend: Oakland is 1-9 straight up in their last 10 games as a road underdog with a spread between 8 to 10.5.
Raiders +9.5 (-110), Over 41.5 (-110), +325 (Money line)
Chargers -9.5 (-110), Under 41.5 (-110), -450 (Money line)
