 Saturday nights NFL match-up between the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs in Oakland’s Network Associates Stadium is a classic battle between old AFL rivals and doesn’t need playoff implications to get the Raiders and Chiefs blood boiling when these two teams kickoff at 8:30 p.m. (EST).
This game is irrelevant to the Raiders chances of making the playoff with their record at two wins and 12 losses. The Chiefs on the other hand have a minimal chance to make the playoffs but will need some help from other games being played this weekend. The once mighty looking Chiefs reached a 7-4 record against the Broncos on Thanksgiving day but have since sputtered losing three straight and are facing almost certain elimination with five other teams at 7-7 or 8-6. This factor puts them behind in the chase of a possible Wild Card berth. The Chiefs have performed poorly against the AFC only scoring one touchdown in their last two games. In Sunday’s game, Kansas City was held to three field goals and never put together a decent drive. Trent Green continues to be their starting quarterback and it remains a shame that Damon Huards amazing substitution of Green went unappreciated and not taken advantage of. As a team, the Chiefs seemed more comfortable with Huard but Herman Edwards choice to place Green back as starter in spite of the great performance by the replacement apparently killed the built up steam they could have used for the last run to the playoffs. Luckily they will be facing a terrible Oakland Raiders defense. Kansas City closes out the season at home against Jacksonville, one of the teams at 8-6, but will need to beat Oakland to entertain further thoughts about the playoffs. Hopefully for the Chiefs they can muster up a good game against the Raiders while hoping the Jaguars take a loss against New England at home. I like the Chiefs minus the 7-point chalk tonight.
