The New York Jets have high expectations for the 2007 season after making dramatic strides under rookie Head Coach Eric Mangini. Bodog.com has made the New York Jets 38 to 1 betting odds to win the 2008 Super Bowl XLII.

The offense is as unpredictable an offense as you will find with a lot of short passes, trick plays and no-huddle. This year New York will have a power running attack with the addition of RB Thomas Jones. Jones will form a 1-2 punch with the electrifying RB Leon Washington. Washigton is an all-purpose back with some unreal moves. The Receiving group is a decent one led by Laveranues Coles. Coles has some quicks but has been hamperd by injuries. WR Jerricho Cotchery showed some big-play skills and impressed with his willingness to go over the middle. The Offensive Line returns all 5 starters from a good group that should improve with more experience.

On defense the Jets run out of the 3-4. Mangini likes to bring the heat and disguises his blitzes very. well. DE Shaun Ellis has very good pass-rush ability and has emerged as a complete player. Veteran DE Kimo von Oelhoffen was a dissapointment last year but he is smart and can still make some plays. Former #1 pick NT Dewayne Robertson has underachieved but he still has upside. OLB Jonathan Vilma is still adjusting to 3-4 but has the talent to be an NFL superstar. The Secondary was left on an island much of the time from all the blitzes last year and got toasted often. The corners are vulnerable again this season but the Safety position appears to be in good hands with Kerry Rhodes. Rhodes is aggresive and makes tackles all over the field. The Special Teams are a team strength with a very accurate Placekicker Mike Nugent.
This could be a big year for the New York Jets if the Secondary can play well. This team is well coached and confident they can make it to the Superbowl. While in the competitive AFC East I see a division title being difficult a 9-7 season looks most likely.
