NFL Week 2 Picks: Will big favorites go 5-1 ATS again?

NFL Week 2 Picks: Will favorites go 5-1 ATS again this week? When doing research to figure out what NFL week 2 picks you want to bet, you might uncovered that playing the six biggest favorites in week 1 turned out a nice profit as those teams went 5-1 against the spread (ATS). But before you jump on that bandwagon with your NFL week 2 picks this weekend, realize that things are a little different since the big numbers are really big. Something looked familiar so we looked back to NFL week 2 picks from the 2006 season and there were six games on the card with spreads greater than a touchdown last year and just like last week the favorites went 5-1 ATS.

“There are always some great betting values to be found in the first few weeks of the NFL season,” states Point-Spreads.com NFL Picks Expert Brad Marchetti. “Linesmakers inflate point spreads wildly off of week one performances.”

Based on lines that closed at 5.5 or greater, both inter-conference favorites hit (Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers), the road favorites was a winner (New England Patriots), and the non-divisional home favorite Seattle Seahawks were winners over the Tampa Bay Bucs. There were two divisional home favorites (Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys), and the Jaguars were the lone loser. The Dallas Cowboys set a record for most-points against the New York Giants in the franchise’s 83-yards history but the game was still up in the air in the fourth quarter!

Another thing to consider when making your NFL week 2 picks is that Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre holds a fair share of records and with one more win he’ll move ahead of John Elway for the most wins by a starting quarterback (149). But Brett Favre set a new one in the third quarter of his win against the Eagles that won’t make it into any official rule books. Favre became the first player to draw a round of applause from the Philadelphia Eagles sidelines mid-game for the job he did getting away from would-be tacklers behind the line of scrimmage. It was only a golf-clap, mind you, but they were standing.

On the next play, Favre acknowledged the crowd by performing a Peyton Manning-like impression as the play clock neared double-zeros, calling an audible and making hand gestures that no one seemed to understand. The result was another completion as he was being hauled down mid-throw. Fantastic. The Green Bay Packers are 1 point road dogs against the New York Giants in NFL week 2 at SportsBetting.com.

Notable rookie performances in Week 1 belong to Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (19 carries for 103 yards) and Mason Crosby, the Green Bay Packer kicker that booted the winning field goal vs. the Philadelphia Eagles as time expired. But a tip of the hat also goes out to new Dolphins coach Cam Cameron who, faced with a difficult decision with seconds left in the half, lived up to his billing as an offensive guru and went for it. The Dolphins won the battle (got the TD) but the Redskins won the war (game).
