Point-Spreads.com has learned that NETeller founder John Lefebvre has pleaded guilty today to a charge of conspiracy to conduct internet gambling. John Lefebvre faces up to five years in jail when he is sentenced on November 1st, 2007.
"I eventually came to see that promoting payment services to online gambling businesses serving customers in the United States was wrong," Lefebvre said.
While a disappointment, the news does not come as a shock to the internet gambling industry, many expected he would follow in the footsteps of Stephen Lawrence. Lawrence pleaded guilty in his case on June 29th, 2007 .
NETeller is expected to make an announcement on July 13th, 2007 regarding their return of over $55 million to United States customers. Since the case against the two NETeller founders seems to be resolved, hopefully the announcement on the 13th will not be another stall tactic. American account holders have been waiting for over five months to receive their funds. The pair were arrested and charged in January with conspiring to transfer funds with the intent to promote internet gambling. After the arrests, NETeller Plc decided to leave the US market.
