UFC 109: It is the fight MMA fans have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for as UFC Hall of Famers Randy Couture and Mark Coleman meet in the Octagon for the first time. The two fighters, who crested 40 some time ago, are headlining UFC 109: Relentless tonight at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 11 fight card, which also features a middleweight battle between Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen, is scheduled to begin at 10:00pm ET and can be seen live on Pay-Per View. UFC 109: Randy Couture vs Mark Coleman Fight Odds, Picks & Predictions at online bookmaker BetUS.com have Couture listed as a heavy -400 moneyline favorite to take out Coleman.

Randy Couture has nothing left to prove in mixed martial arts, but if his move to back to light heavyweight eventually UFC 109: Randy Couture vs Mark Coleman Fight Odds, Picks & Predictionsresults in another title shot, "The Natural" may go down as the greatest fighter of all-time, in spite of his modest 17-10 career record.

Since returning to the UFC in March of 2008, Couture is 1-2 with losses to heavyweights Brock Lesnar and Minotauro Nogueira. Those setbacks, along with the burgeoning size of the heavyweight contenders, prompted the 46 year old to return to the light heavyweight division. The change paid immediate dividends as Couture won a unanimous decision victory over Brandon Vera in November of last year.

Now the former Oklahoma State wrestler has another hurdle to jump before thinking about getting in the cage with light heavyweight stalwarts Rashad Evans, "Rampage" Jackson, "Shogun" Rua, or Lyoto Machida. That hurdle would be former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Mark Coleman.

"Mark is another classic matchup for me," Couture said. "Like Nogueira, this is a fight that was supposed to happen a long time ago and is finally now a reality. I look forward to testing my skills and fighting spirit against another UFC Hall of Fame fighter."

Coleman, like Couture, just recently returned to the UFC, ending a decade long absence with a showdown against Mauricio Rua in January of 2009. That fight did not go according to plan for Coleman as the Brazillian soured his return with a third round TKO. However, the 45 year old Ohio native got back on track with a unanimous decision win over a much younger Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100 in July.

Coleman, who won the PRIDE Open Weight Grand Prix in 2000, can improve his career record to 17-9 with a win over Couture this evening. He knows that will not be easy task, though, given Couture's heart and tremendous skill set.

"Randy's definitely one of the greatest fighters of all-time, a man I respect greatly inside and outside the cage," Coleman said. "He's a true champion, a guy who's been able to get to the top, fall, and be able to climb back to the top. That's what really determines a champion."

UFC 109 Odds: Nate Marquardt vs Chael Sonnen UFC 109 Picks PDF Print E-mail

UFC 109 Odds: The UFC returns to the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas tonight as former champions Randy "The Natural" Couture and Mark "The Hammer" Coleman headline UFC 109: Relentless. The 11 fight card also features a non-title fight between top middleweight contenders Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen. The winner of tonight's bout will face the victor of April's UFC 112 battle between current middleweight champion Anderson Silva and No.1 challenger Vitor Belfort. Tonight's event is scheduled to get underway 7:15pm ET, but the first televised fight can be seen live on Pay-Per-View at 10:00pm ET. UFC 109 Odds and Picks at Bodog.com have Marquardt listed as a -525 moneyline favorite.

Nate Marquardt has been pining for a rematch with Anderson Silva since losing to the champ at UFC 73 in July of 2007. UFC 109 Odds: Nate Marquardt vs Chael Sonnen UFC 109 PicksMarquardt has made his case largely in the Octagon, though, going 4-1 since Silva defeated him. The Colorado native's only loss in that stretch came via split decision in June of 2008 (Thales Leites).

The 30 year old Marquardt, who possesses a 32-8-2 professional MMA record, improved his UFC tally to 8-2 last August with a stunning first round knockout of Demain Maia.

Marquardt, who has finished his last three opponents by KO/TKO, indicated he is confident that Sonnen will be just another stepping stone in the road back to Silva.

"Everything that he does, I do better, and that's one of the main differences," Marquardt said. "That's what makes me No. 2 in the world and him at No. 6. I have knockout power and I haven't seen knockout power from him. He's a grinder, but I can grind too and then I can knock you out."

Chael Sonnen comes into this evening's skirmish having won four of his last five fights inside the Octagon. Sonnen's last conquest came in October of 2009 when he won by unanimous decision over Yushin Okami. The victory improved the Oregon resident's UFC record to 6-4 and his overall record to 25-10-1.

All six of Sonnen's wins inside the Octagon have come via unanimous decision while all four of his losses were by submission.

Sonnen has garnered a great deal of attention of late, not because of his fighting prowess, but due to his talking skills. The 32 year old has used the lead up to tonight's fight as an occasion to blast Anderson Silva, referring to the much feared champ as a 'fraud'. He also took time to get in a dig at Marquardt too.

"His (Marquardt) win/loss record is going to take a little hit on the 6th," Sonnen said.

Herschel Walker vs. Greg Nagy MMA Strikeforce Miami Odds PDF Print E-mail
Written by Reno Gold

Herschel Walker has won a Heisman Trophy and he is in the College Football Hall of Fame. But those accomplishments must not be enough. Saturday night, Walker, at 47 years old, will make his Mixed Martial Arts debut in the Strikeforce cage against Greg Nagy in Miami.

Herschel Walker vs. Greg Nagy MMA Strikeforce Miami OddsMMA oddsmakers at online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com list Walker as -330 odds favorite over Nagy and the round total (OVER/UNDER) at 6.5.

It was announced in September 2009 that Walker had been signed by MMA promotion Strikeforce to compete in their heavyweight division. After completing a 12-week training camp with trainer "Crazy" Bob Cook, at the American Kickboxing Academy California in San Jose, Calif., in October.

There are plenty of questions surrounding this match-up. Strikeforce needs Walker to succeed and in creating this matchup with the Hungarian born Nagy, it's assumed they have found someone Walker can defeat. However, Nagy has an edge in experience and is much younger. Walker has been training with some of the worlds best so after 12 weeks at AKA should be ready to go.

UFC 108 Odds: Rashad Evans vs Thiago Silva UFC 108 Picks PDF Print E-mail

UFC 108 Odds: "Suga" Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva will headline tonight's UFC 108 event, which is scheduled to get underway at 10:00pm ET at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (Live Pay-Per-View). The former champion Evans is looking to regain his crown, but he will have to dispose of one of the light heavyweight division's top contenders in Silva in order to get that chance. Also on this evening's 10 fight card is a heavyweight batte between Junior Dos Santos and Gilbert Yvel and a welterweight clash between Paul Daley and Dustin Hazelett. UFC 108 Odds and UFC 108 Picks at online sportsbook Bodog.com have Rashad Evans listed as a -200 moneyline favorite in tonight's main event.UFC 108 Odds: Rashad Evans vs Thiago Silva UFC 108 Picks

Rashad Evans, fresh off his stint as coach on TUF season 10, comes into this evening's fight with an 18-1-1 MMA record. Evans, who was suppose to fight Quinton "Rampage" Jackson back in November (Jackson backed out of the fight for a role in the upcoming A-Team movie), suffered his first career loss the last time he entered the Octagon. Current champion Lyoto Machida scored a devastating knock out of Evans in May of 2009, ruining the Michigan State grads first title defense.

The 30 year old Evans, despite wanting to settle his on-going grudge match with Jackson, has his heart set on another meeting with Machida. However, he knows overcoming Silva will be a major feat in itself.

"This is my first step in getting my title back," Evans said. "Thiago is a dangerous fighter standing up and on the ground and I always relish an opportunity to fight the best and put on a great show for fans."

Thiago Silva , like Evans, has just one career loss and, again, like Evans, that loss came at the hands of Lyoto Machida. The 27 year old Silva, who has a 14-1 career record and a 5-1 tally inside the Octagon, was knocked out by his fellow Brazilian in January of last year. He has fought once since that setback, smashing Evan's good friend and teammate, Keith Jardine, at UFC 102 in August. Silva needed just 1:35 to dispose of the "Dean of Mean", giving him his fourth (T)KO stoppage in the UFC.

Silva, who has not had a single fight inside the Octagon go the distance, is anxious for his first title shot. And his comments would indicate he believes that may be in order after tonight.

"I feel the bigger the fight, the better I do," Silva said. "Being in the main event for a UFC card has always been a goal of mine. Rashad is a great fighter, but he'd better come prepared in all aspects of mixed martial arts."

Bodog.com UFC 108 Odds: Rashad Evans vs Thiago Silva UFC 108 Picks:

UFC 108: Junior Dos Santos vs Gilbert Yvel Fight Odds, Picks & Predictions PDF Print E-mail
Written by Matt Foust
Saturday, 02 January 2010

UFC 108 Odds, Picks & Predictions: The action returns to the Octagon tonight as UFC 108 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC 108 is scheduled to get underway at 10:00pm ET/7:00pm PT and can be seen live on Pay-Per-View. The 10 fight card is headlined by a non-title bout between top light heavyweight contenders Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva. It also features heavyweight up and comer Junior Dos Santos taking on MMA veteran Gilbert Yvel, who will be making his UFC debut. UFC 108: Junior Dos Santos vs Gilbert Yvel Fight Odd, Picks & Predictions at online bookmaker BetUS.com have Dos Santos listed as a heavy -350 favorite.

Twenty-five year old Junior Dos Santos burst onto the UFC scene in October of 2008 with a first round knock out of Fabricio UFC 108: Junior Dos Santos vs Gilbert Yvel Fight Odds, Picks & PredictionsWerdum. He has since defeated Stefan Struve (TKO) and the legendary Mirko Cro Cop (Submission) to bring his UFC record to 3-0. The hulking Dos Santos, who stands 6'4" tall and weighed in at 237lbs. for tonight's fight, possesses a 9-1 professional mixed martial arts record. His only loss came in November of 2007 when he was submitted via arm bar by Joaquim Ferreira at the MTL - Final.

Dos Santos, who has a purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu, is primarily a stand-up fighter with good boxing skills. His style should make for an interesting battle with the always dangerous Yvel.

Gilbert Yvel comes into his Octagon debut sporting a 36-13-1 (1 NC with Wanderlei Silva) professional MMA record. Yvel last fought in June of 2009 when he scored a devastating knock out win against Pedro Rizzo at FFI - Ultimate Chaos. Prior to the Rizzo fight, Yvel fell in round three to Josh Barnett at Affliction - Day of Reckoning in January of 2009. The 33 year old Yvel, who hails from Amsterdam, Holland but fights out of Las Vegas, won seven straight fights before the Barnett loss.

Yvel, who is a former kickboxing champion, also possesses a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu; however, like Dos Santos, he does most of his work standing up. He has a great deal of power as 31 of his 36 wins have come via KO or TKO.

The edge should go to Dos Santos here. The big Brazilian has proven what he can do with his hands, but he also showed the type of chin he has when he squared of with Cro Cop. Dos Santos took several hard shots from the Russian, but never appeared shaken. His power and durability will eventually get to the veteran Yvel.

BetUS.com UFC 108: Junior Dos Santos vs Gilbert Yvel Fight Odds, Picks & Predictions:

Rashad Evans -210
Thiago Silva +165

Junior Dos Santos -350
Gilbert Yvel +250

Joe Lauzon -300
Sam Stout +220

Jake Ellenberger -140
Mike Pyle +110
