Ultimate Fighter Finale TUF 9: The Ultimate Fighter season 9 will come to a conclusion tonight at The Pearl in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition to the lightweight and welterweight Ultimate Fighter finales, the UFC has stacked the card with a number of quality fights, including a headliner between Diego Sanchez and Illinois tough guy Clay Guida. Online bookmaker BetUS.com has Sanchez listed as a -300 moneyline favorite in their Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida Ultimate Fighter Finale TUF 9 Odds. It looked as though the Ultimate Fighter season 2 winner, Diego Sanchez, might have been at a career crossroads after losing back-to-back fights against Josh Koscheck and Jon Fitch in 2007, but those days — and times — are long gone. The man referred to as "Nightmare" is now within striking distance of a lightweight title shot after three straight wins, the latest being a unanimous decision victory over Joe Stevenson at UFC 95 in February.

A win over Guida tonight should make Sanchez, who possesses a 22-2 MMA record, the number one contender in the lightweight division and put him in position to take on the winner of the B.J. Penn/Kenny Florian fight at UFC 101 in August.

Sanchez, who once relied almost exclusively on his mat skills, has displayed some vastly improved striking chops in his most recent fights. Although he submitted David Bielkheden at UFC 82, he dominated both Luigi Fioravanti and Stevenson with his stand-up talents.

The 27 year old's well-rounded fight game has oddsmakers looking for a Sanchez win in Vegas tonight. While the San Diego native knows the dangers of Guida, he is envisioning the same thing.

"I have a lot of respect for Clay, but I am still technically superior [to him] in all aspects" Sanchez said.

Clay Guida, who always fights at a frenetic pace, has also won three fights in row as well and he is quickly moving up the lightweight food chain. The former carpenter last fought in January at UFC 94 and won a split decision victory over the always tough Nate Diaz.

Guida, who owns a 25-6 professional MMA record, has noticed the change in Sanchez' fighting approach, but he feels that he will be able to get the better of him regardless.

"Diego is a talented lightweight whose unorthodox southpaw style is awkward," Guida said. "Diego has changed up his style in the past couple of years from ground and pound wrestler to more of a patient jiu-jitsu style fighter with improved striking. I am confident this feeds better into our game plan of being able to control the pace on the feet, clinch, and on the ground."

This evening's event is scheduled to get underway at 9:00pm ET; it will be televised live on Spike TV.

Joe Stevenson vs Nate Diaz Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale Odds PDF Print E-mail

The Ultimate Fighter 9 finale will take place tonight at The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada. The big event, which will be broadcast live on Spike TV at 9:00pm ET, features a 10 fight card headlined by a throwdown between Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida. Also on the docket is a battle between two high profile lightweights, Joe "Daddy" Stevenson and Nate Diaz. Bookmaker BetUS.com has Diaz listed as a -165 moneyline favorite in their Joe Stevenson vs Nate Diaz Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale Odds. Joe Stevenson vs Nate Diaz Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale Odds

Joe Stevenson, who at point was a challenger for the lightweight belt, is in desperate need of a win. "Daddy" has lost three of his last four fights and has shown an inability to get past the division's top fighters. The 27 year old father of four has fallen to B.J. Penn, Kenny Florian, and Diego Sanchez all within the past year and a half.

Stevenson left his California home in preparation for tonight's fight with Diaz, electing to train with MMA guru Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Torrance native, who has a 34-10 professional record, is hoping the switch will bring about a different result in the Octagon. However, the veteran fighter knows beating Diaz will not be an easy task.

"I see a man that is very dangerous the whole time, not just at one point," Stevenson said. "Sometimes people think that they've got him in trouble and that's when he attacks. He's the most dangerous when you think he's at his weakest. And that's something I'm not going to let happen to me."

In contrast to Stevenson, Nate Diaz has won five of his last six fights. The Ultimate Fighter season 5 winner lost a split decision to Clay Guida in his last Octagon appearance (UFC 94 in January).

The 24 year old Diaz is adept at fighting on his feet and his jiu-jitsu background makes him a formidable opponent on the ground as well. Stylistically, he could present the same kinds of problems that B.J. Penn did to Stevenson.

Diaz, who is 10-3, indicated that he is more than ready for tonight's scrap and that Stevenson better be as well.

"He's (Stevenson) one of the top guys in the division and it's going to be a tough fight," Diaz said. "I hope he's [trained] as hard as I [have]."

DaMarques Johnson vs James Wilks Ultimate Figther 9 Finale Odds PDF Print E-mail

The Ultimate Fighter 9 will conclude tonight with welterweights DaMarques Johnson and James Wilks squaring off in the Octagon for the right to be a UFC fighter. Johnson is the only American to make it into a final match as the lightweight title fight will be between Brits Ross Pearson and Andre Winner. Online bookmaker Bodog.com has Johnson listed as a -350 moneyline favorite in their DaMarques Johnson vs James Wilks Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale Odds.DaMarques Johnson vs James Wilks Ultimate Figther 9 Finale Odds

This evening's action is set to get underway at 9:00pm ET at The Pearl in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be televised live on Spike TV. Headlining tonight's card is a battle between former Ultimate Fighter winner, Diego Sanchez, and Clay Guida.

DaMarques Johnson, the 26 year old from Salt Lake City, Utah, will carry the load for the American team when he enters the Octagon with James Wilks tonight. Johnson, who is 9-6 as a professional fighter, has been impressive on the show, displaying the potential to be a well-rounded combatant with a possible bright future in the UFC.

Johnson, never one to mince words on the show, made it clear how he feels about Wilks and what he wants to do to him this evening.

"James is such a pompous prick," Johnson said. "That dude, I don't what it is, his mannerisms, his f**king face just tugs on my life cord and makes me want to hurt somebody."

As for Wilks, the Englishman who is fighting out of Laguna Hills, California, he too has been imposing in his Ultimate Fighter Octagon appearances. The 31 year old picked apart American Frank Lester on two seperate occasions to earn a spot in tonight's proceedings. Wilks exploited Lester's haymaker striking tactics and repeatedly took advantage of openings the American left to win both fights with relative ease.

Wilks has heard all the talk from Johnson, but he feels that he has what it takes to get the job done at The Pearl.

"I was confident when I got here and I'm confident I'll win this finale," Wilks said.

"Silva also has some solid jiu-jitsu ability but he has neglected it in recent bouts. This line opened with Silva as a -105 favorite, however tons of money has poured in on Franklin making him a very heavy favorite.

"The one question mark in Franklin’s game is his lack of jiu-jitsu ability which could hurt him against Silva," Marchetti said.

The UFC 99 picks odds for the Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic vs Mustapha Al-Turk have moved considerable from their original opening number of Cro Cop -550 betting odds. The current UFC betting odds have Cro Cop listed at -350 odds with heavy betting action pouring in on the underdog Mustapha Al-Turk.
