The surprising Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels meet again tonight in the Pacific Northwest for game two of their three game set at Safeco Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:10pm ET. Los Angeles Angels vs Seattle Mariners Baseball Predictions at Bodoglife.com have the visiting Angels listed as a -127 moneyline favorite in this evening's AL West battle.
Seattle improved to 6-2 yesterday by beating the Angels 3-2 in a 10 inning nail-biter at Safeco Field. The Mariners, who are currently in first place in the division, got a solid effort from starting pitcher Carlos Silva. The 29 year old veteran tossed seven innings and gave up just four hits and two earned runs.
Ken Griffrey Jr. made his return to Seattle in the win, going 1-for-3 with a base hit and a walk. The former, and now current, Mariner was greeted in near rock star fashion by the packed house at Safeco.
The Angels fell to 3-4 with the loss, but had to feel good about the performance of Shane Loux. Loux worked 5.1 innings and allowed only two earned runs. Los Angeles, however, recorded back to back throwing errors in the bottom of the 10th inning that enabled Seattle's Franklin Gutierrez to score the game winning run.
Going for the Angels tonight is 26 year old lefty, Jered Weaver. Weaver is 1-0 on the season after beating the Red Sox back on April 10th. He pitched 6.2 innings in that game and allowed no earned runs while striking out eight. Weaver was 2-1 against the Mariners in four 2008 starts, but his earned run average was a less than stellar 5.79 in those appearances.
Former Angel Jarrod Washburn will head to the mound for the Mariners this evening. Washburn was brillant in his first start of the season, working eight scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins. The Wisconsin native gave up just five hits in 96 pitches thrown.
