Big hitters Yasiel Puig, Yoenis Cespedes, Jose Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki will be swinging the lumber at the 2014 MLB Home Run Derby tonight, Monday July 14th, from Minnesota’s Target Field. MLB made some rather dramatic adjustments to the way the competition is formatted, which will make it more competitive, and easier on the hitters. Miami Marlins Giancarlo Stanton is the odd-on favorite to win the Home Run Derby because he’s tied for the lead in the National League with 21 home runs. Mike Trout, Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Abreu and Miguel Cabrera won’t be participating. Make your prediction and be sure to check the MLB All-Star Game Odds for the big game tomorrow.
Giancarlo Stanton (3/1) simply has too much power for any one park to contain. He’s currently tied for the lead in the National League with 21 home runs and the ones he hits are moonshots. His swing—and the results—are simply majestic.
Jose Bautista has been in beast mode since 2010. Over that stretch, he has a .953 OPS and has slugged 169 home runs with 113 doubles and 419 RBI. He owns a career .966 slugging percentage in 14 games at Target Field.
Yasiel Puig (5/1) has more doubles, triples and RBI’s than he did last year, when his arrival sparked an incredible turnaround in Los Angeles. Puig will deposit quite a few in the stands tonight.
Yoenis Cespedes (5/1) is the defending champion. And yes, he is raking the ball once again this season. He has a batting-practice swing perfectly tailored to this event
Troy Tulowitzki (8/1) lead MLB in batting average (.344), on-base percentage (.435) and on-base plus slugging (1.048), but he had a .311/.462/1.016 batting average with runners in scoring position when play began. In other words, Tulowitzki is spanking the ball.

Josh Donaldson (10/1) is known for his ability to hit on the road (he owns a .269/.352/.455 batting average away from the Oakland Coliseum), Donaldson has a .552 career slugging percentage at Target Field.
Justin Morneau (10/1) is having a nice season. On it, he has a .307/.340/.498 slash line with 13 home runs, 59 RBI, 20 doubles and 36 runs scored. He has hit eight of his 13 homers at Coors Field, but he has a hard time generating home run power at normal altitudes.
Adam Jones (12/1) is more of a hitter’s hitter and not so much one who can summon raw power at will. Although, he hit more than 30 home runs the last two seasons and puts on batting-practice exhibitions regularly.
Brian Dozier (12/1) mashes the ball at Target Field. Nine of his 16 home runs have come there, and he has a legit .481 slugging percentage in 196 plate appearances at his home park.
Todd Frazier (12/1) was third in batting average, fourth in slugging and fourth in OPS in MLB at the the third base position. The number that matters here is 18. As in his 18 home runs that rank second among all third basemen behind Josh Donaldson from the Oakland A’s.
