The Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies are both battling for playoff positioning. The Brewers hold a lead in the Wild Card race but they have won just three of their last 10 games and are in a bit of a tailspin. Sheets has been as good as it gets over his last three starts. He’s been lights out while pitching 20 innings over those starts allowing zero runs. As a matter of fact, Sheets has allowed zero runs in his four of his last six starts. Even so, the Brewers have won just five of his last seven starts. Sheets has yet to start against the Phillies this season.
Jamie Moyer, even at age 45, still brings it every time he steps on the mound as evidenced by his seven-inning, two-hit gem on Sunday. He gives the Phillies an excellent chance to win once every five nights and they’ve don’t exactly that. The Phillies have won six of his last eight starts. Moyer has given up 34 earned runs in his last 102.4 innings pitched, which puts his ERA at 2.99 over that span. He’s only lost once since the start of July.
He’s started only once against the Brewers this season but pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run. The Brewers did get eight hits off him, though, and are batting .365 against him this season. The Brewers will play four games in Philadelphia, which will end their season series.
