Western Conference leader San Antonio will meet the Lakers for the second time this season when the two teams hook up for a hoops battle in Los Angeles later tonight. This evening’s high profile contest is scheduled for a 10:30pm ET tip at the STAPLES Center; it will be broadcast live on TNT. NBA Point Spreads have the visiting Spurs listed as a -3 against the spread road favorite and the Over/Under set at 199 points.
San Antonio, the hottest team in basketball, has capitalized on the Thunder’s recent inconsistencies and assumed control of the top spot in the Western Conference standings. The Spurs, who are 2-1 against Oklahoma City this season, ran their record to 43-16 last night with a 120-99 thrashing of the Warriors at the ORACLE Arena in Oakland.
The victory, which represented San Antonio’s 14 straight over Golden State, saw the Spurs drain 12-of-27 from three point range and 36-of-43 from the charity stripe. Tony Parker and Tim Duncan played just 15 and 11 minutes respectively, but the pair combined for 21 points, four rebounds, and five assists in the win. The San Antonio bench logged 160 minutes and scored 71 of the team’s 120 points.
Los Angeles, which is playing its sixth consecutive game without the services of Kobe Bryant (bruised shin), won its fourth straight on Sunday night with a 112-108 overtime victory against the defending champion Mavericks.
The Lakers, now 39-22 and third in the Western Conference standings, out-rebounded Dallas 52 to 42 and hit 21-of-27 from the free throw line in the critical win. Andrew Bynum continued his dominant run, scoring 23 points and grabbing 16 boards in leading Los Angeles. Pau Gasol also posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
San Antonio lost its third straight game to the Lakers when the two Western Conference rivals hooked up last Wednesday at the AT&T Center. Both teams were lights out from beyond the arc with L.A. knocking down 11 three-pointers to the Spurs 13, but the Lakers owned the glass, out-rebounding San Antonio 60 to 33. Bynum scored a modest 16 points in the win, but his 30 boards were key with Bryant out of the lineup.
NBA Point Spreads Betting Trend: The Lakers are 8-2 against the spread and 7-3 straight up in their last 10 games as a home dog with a spread between 0 and 3.5 points.
