The Lakers barely escaped disaster on Thursday night as Ron Artest, who scored just four points in the pivotal contest, 
banked home a shot at the buzzer to give his team a 103-101 victory. The win was the seventh in a row for Los Angeles against the Suns at the STAPLES Center, but it was a much closer call than the previous six, which the Lakers won by an average of 17.2 points per game.
Phoenix stepped up its defense, limiting the Lakers to 41.8 percent field goal shooting; however, Phil Jackson's squad got off 14 more shots than the Suns, which proved to be the difference in the game. Los Angeles also hit 20-of-23 shots from the free throw line, where Phoenix went just 20-of-29.
Kobe Bryant continued his sensational run with a 30 point, 11 rebound, nine assist, and four block night. The former MVP had plenty of help, though, as Pau Gasol scored 21 points and grabbed nine boards and Lamar Odom produced 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The Suns got a big night from two-time MVP Steve Nash as he scored 29 points on 12-of-20 shooting and dished out a game-high 11 assists. Amare Stoudemire finished the evening with 19 points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots.
Phoenix has been red hot at the U.S. Airways Center of late, going 14-1 in its last 15 games at the facility. The Suns only loss in that stretch came against Portland in the first game of the 2010 NBA Playoffs. Nash and company have also won four of their last five at home against the Lakers by an average of 10 points per game. Look for Phoenix to push this series to a game seven with a win tonight in the Valley of the Sun.
