The 2016 NBA Finals will feature of rematch of last year’s lopsided series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors. The Warriors won their first championship since 1975, defeating LeBron James and company 4-2. The NBA odds makers at Bovada.lv are anticipating a similar result this year with Golden State lined as a -220 favorite in the offshore bookmaker’sopening 2016 NBA Finals series price.

The Cavaliers, however, look like a better team entering this year’s championship series as they seem to prefer Tyronne Lue’s head coaching style and personality over the dismissed David Blatt.

Cleveland streaked its way to the Eastern Conference Finals, dispatching both the Pistons and Hawks in four games, and it jumped out to a 2-0 series lead against the Raptors before punching its Finals ticket with a 4-2 series victory.

The Warriors, conversely, had some unexpected trouble in reaching the Finals. Golden State took care of business, even with an injured Stephen Curry, against both the Rockets and Trail Blazers, winning its first two playoff series 4-1, but the Western Conference Finals nearly proved disastrous.

The Warriors found themselves in a 1-3 series hole as Oklahoma City scored 108-102, 133-105 and 118-94 wins. Curry and company showed the resolve of a champion, though, closing out the Thunder with three straight wins, including a 108-101 Game 6 victory in the Sooner State.

Golden State will, without question, be the toughest assignment the Cavaliers have faced this postseason and they will need to be at their best in every game in order to secure the franchise’s first championship.

James and his cohorts were 0-2 in two regular season meetings with the Warriors, falling 83-89 at home and 98-132 in Oakland. Curry accounted for 54 points, 10 assists, 12 rebounds and five steals in those two wins. His counterpart, Kyrie Irving, managed just 21 points and five assists in defeat.

Given those results, it is no wonder odds makers and bettors alike are expecting the Warriors to successfully defend their title.

Game 1 of the 2016 NBA Finals is scheduled to tip off at 9:00pm ET on Thursday, June 2 in Oakland, California; coverage of the game will be provided by ABC.
