Celtics at Lakers Game 1 NBA Finals Odds & Predictions 2010: Six weeks ago the Boston Celtics entered the playoffs lacking in expectations given to the likes of Cleveland, Orlando and Los Angeles. The defending league champion Lakers looked like good bets to return to the Finals, but the Celtics had struggled through a decent part of the regular season, and looked like their best days were behind them.
After upsetting the Cavaliers and Magic in the Eastern Conference semifinals and finals, the Celtics look rejuvenated, as they get ready to take on the Lakers in the 12th NBA Finals meeting between these two storied franchises.
Unlike the first three rounds of the playoffs, the NBA Finals goes with a 2-3-2 format for the home teams. So the Lakers will host Games 1 and 2 Thursday (9 pm Eastern, ABC) and Sunday (8 pm, ABC), and Boston will host Games 3, 4 and, if needed, Game 5 next Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
As of Thursday morning SPORTSBETTING.com is listing the Lakers as 5.5-point favorites for Thursday's Game 1, with an OVER/UNDER of 191.5. LA is also giving -230 on the moneyline for the finals opener, with Boston getting +190 to win the game outright.
The Celtics ended the regular season on a 3-7 downslide, and entered the playoffs as the four seed in the East. But Boston beat the Miami Heat in five games in the first round, the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in six games in the East semifinals, and the defending Eastern Conference champion Orlando Magic in six games in the conference finals.
LA seemed to take its foot off the gas late in the regular season, losing six of its last nine games. But the Lakers were still the top seed in the West, and they've played like it, fending off the upstart Oklahoma City Thunder in six games in the first round of the playoffs, sweeping the Utah Jazz out in four games in the conference semis, and beating the Phoenix Suns in six games in the West finals.
Los Angeles and Boston split their two meetings during this regular season, each team winning by one point on the other's home floor. And both those games played well UNDER their SPORTSBETTING.com betting totals, as the games averaged just 176 points.
For the Finals series itself, SPORTSBETTING.com is chalking Los Angeles at -175, with the Celtics getting +155 as the underdogs. And SPORTSBETTING is offering prices on the exact outcome of the series. For example, a Lakers sweep is priced at +1,100, while a Celtics sweep is listed at +2,500.
We (Point-Spreads.com) don't look for any sweep in this series and what a disappointment it would be if it happened. This series will go at least six games.
