Spurs at Nuggets NBA Predictions – Dec 16 2010

by Reno Gold on Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Spurs at Nuggets NBA Predictions: The San Antonio Spurs, at 21-3, have the best record in the NBA, but must keep winning to stay ahead of the Dallas Mavericks, who are hot on their heels in the Southwest Division Standings only trailing by 1 1/2 games.  Thursday night (10:30 PM ET) the Spurs will be looking to improve their record when they hit the road to play the dangerous Denver Nuggets (15-9) at Pepsi Center. The Nuggets are in the thick of the Northwest Division battle in third place only 2-games back leaders Oklahoma City.

San Antonio, winners in eight of their last ten games, will be looking to extend their winning streak currently at six games. Oddsmakers at SPORTSBOOK.com and most offshore sports gaming sites list the Spurs as 1-chalk favorites versus the Nuggets with a posted 211 1/2 total.

The Spurs picked up their sixth straight win, a 92-90 result, Wednesday night at home versus the Milwaukee Bucks. For the game, the Spurs failed to cover the betting spread as 9 1/2-point favorites. The 182 combined points scored fell UNDER the posted 190 point total.

Denver picked up a big home win on Tuesday, defeating Orlando 114-94 as a 2-chalk home dog. The 205 combined points scored PUSHED on the 205 posted total.

Playing on the road hasn't been an issue with the Spurs as their 8-1 SU road record indicates. They've also been good covering the betting spread going 6-2 ATS on the road. The Nuggets have defended their home court well compiling an 11-1 SU record, but are only 4-7 ATS.

On the injury front, the Nuggets might be without point guard Chauncey Billups who missed the teams last game versus Orlando because of a wrist injury. Billups will be evaluated prior to tonight's game.

Neither team could defend its home court last season as the Nuggets won twice in San Antonio, but dropped both games at the Pepsi Center. Denver is 11-9 against the Spurs since George Karl took over as coach in January 2005.

NBA Picks
: Right now its hard to pick against the Spurs who are a team on fire. However, Denver will be playing with backing of a raucous home crowd. I'm predicting an upset and calling for a SU Denver win.
