miami running back duke johnsonLouisiana-Lafayette and Western Kentucky got the mid-week college football action rolling last night, but No. 8 Miami and North Carolina as well as UCF and No. 8 Louisville are ready to carry the prime time torch into Saturday. The Hurricanes and Tar Heels are scheduled to battle tomorrow night at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill (7:30pm ET, ESPN) while the Knights and Cardinals are set for a Friday night clash at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville (8:00pm ET, ESPN). The latest NCAA Point Spreads Week 8 have the visiting Hurricanes and hosting Cardinals listed as a -9 and -12.5 against the spread favorites, respectively.

No. 10 Miami Hurricanes at North Carolina Tar Heels (+9, Over/Under 64.5): Almost every measurable — points per game, points per game allowed, yards per game, yards per game allowed, record — points to a Miami victory tomorrow night, but this is a dangerous spot for the Hurricanes. North Carolina is reeling, no doubt, having lost four of its first five games, but it is not devoid of talent. The Tar Heels went 8-4 last season and one of their wins came against the Hurricanes in Miami. Thursday and Friday night road games are never easy, especially against a team that is better than its record and still has an opportunity to salvage its poor start.

UCF Knights at No. 8 Louisville Cardinals (-12.5, Over/Under 53): The Cardinals are an impressive bunch, but it should be noted they have feasted mostly on cupcakes en route to their 6-0 start. Central Florida may not be a national name, but it is anything but a doormat. The Knights, who have won 14 of their last 19 games, bring a 4-1 record into Friday’s showdown with Louisville and their lone loss came against No. 11 South Carolina (28-25). UCF already has three road wins as well and one of those came against a quality Penn State team in Happy Valley. Louisville should get the win, but this number seems a bit high given UCF’s pedigree.
