BYU's 2011 season has in some ways mimicked its 2010 campaign. The Cougars began last 
season with high expectations, but quickly faded, losing four of their first five games before rebounding with wins in six of their final eight games. Given last season's strong finish, many expected another big year from Bronco Mendenhall's squad this season.
The team, again, disappointed by losing two of its first three, but the Cougars have bounced back with five straight wins as they head into tonight's showdown with TCU. BYU's win streak has not been built on the backs of college football juggernauts; however, its run has come against some respectable second-tier schools, including Central Florida and Utah State.
The Horned Frogs certainly represent a step up in competition for the Cougars, but TCU is not the known commodity that it was in the recent past. And it could be argued that BYU is the second or third toughest team the Frogs have faced this year.
TCU's five 2011 wins are against Air Force, Louisiana-Monroe, Portland State, San Diego State, and New Mexico. Its two losses? Baylor and SMU.
Given the Cougars recent run, they should come into tonight's game with at least a measure of confidence. BYU has lost three in a row to TCU by an average of 28 points per game, but this season marks the first time in quite a while that these two teams have been on close to equal footing. The Horned Frogs probably get the win here; however, the Cougars should earn a cover.
