Florida State at NC State 2010 College Football Picks: No. 16 Florida State heads up to Raleigh, N.C. to do battle at North Carolina State Thursday (7:45 PM ET, ESPN) in what could be the battle for the league's Atlantic Division. The Seminoles are undefeated in ACC play at 4-0 while the Wolfpack are 2-1. A win by FSU here will give them some breathing room from the rest of the pack while a Wolfpack win will keep NC State in the thick of the title hunt in a virtual tie with FSU.
Bodog.com lists Florida State as 4-chalk road favorites versus NC State with a posted total of 60 points. Wolfpack backers' are getting +160 odds on the Bodog moneyline while FSU is giving -180 ML odds as the favorite.
FSU is 6-1 SU and 4-2 against the betting spread (ATS) while NC State is 5-2 SU and 4-2 ATS. When playing in October, the Seminoles have been pretty good the past few years going 8-2 SU while the Wolfpack have been terrible winning one of 10 games in the month.
In recent betting trends, FSU is 5-0 SU over its last five games while the total has gone UNDER in four of them. The total has gone OVER in seven of FSU's last 10 games on the road. The Wolfpack are 4-1 SU in its last five games at home and 6-2 in its last eight games anywhere. The total has gone UNDER in four of NC State's last six games when playing FSU.
NC State lost, a 33-27 result against East Carolina on October 16. The Wolfpack failed to cover in that game as a 7 1/2-point favorite, while the 60 combined points took the game UNDER the total. Florida State was a 24-19 winner in Week-8 over Boston College at home. Florida State failed to cover in the match as a 21 1/2-point favorite, while 43 combined points moved the game UNDER for totals bettors.
The Wolfpack have had FSU's number over the years and have pulled off a few shockers. The problem is have in this game is the NCSU defense. Overall, while I've been impressed by both teams, I like what I'm seeing out of the Seminoles best. My pick for tonight's game is FSU -4.
