South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Florida Gators College Football Pick: Betting Line-Gators by 21 1/2 (Total 48); Television- CBS; Kickoff 3:30 pm ET; Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, Fla; Betting Lines provided by Sportsbook.com.
Saturday's game between No. 5(BCS) Florida and No. 25 South Carolina down in the Swamp is the only Week 13 contest between ranked opponents, a far contrast from the past few weeks. However, this game does carry huge implications, especially for Florida a team trying to climb the ladder back to the BCS title game. And the story line is pretty good too with the return of Steve Spurrier, the 'Ole Ball Coach' back to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.
For the Gamecocks, a win over the Gators today would about be a guarantee the team would be playing somewhere on New Years Day.
Oddsmakers at online sports wagering giant Sportsbook.com have installed the Gators as 21 1/2-chalk ATS favorites with a 48 total. Moneyline odds are off the board for this game. . Florida rolled to a 51-31 win in Columbia last season. The Gators blocked three kicks, including a potential game-winning field goal as time expired, to pull out a 17-16 win over Carolina the last time the two teams met at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Florida is a perfect 11-0 when hosting the Gamecocks in Gainesville.
Steve Spurrier has almost always been on the winning sideline when Florida and Carolina get together. He is 11-2 in these contests, including a perfect 10-0 when facing the Gamecocks when he patrolled the Gator sidelines. He has dropped two of three games against his alma mater as Carolina's head coach.
The Gamecocks are 5-11 against ranked opponents in the Steve Spurrier Era, including an 0-2 mark this season. Carolina is 2-8 at home in those contests and 3-3 on the road. The Gamecocks have lost their last four games against ranked opponents.
This game could be closer than expected. South Carolina has struggled some on offense this year but has been winning with one of the nations leading defenses. It is very unlikely any team, including one as high powered as Florida, will defeat Carolina by three touchdowns. We like South Carolina +21 1/2.
