Last week was all-important Rivalry Week, but this week takes precedence as conference titles and potential CFP spots are on the line. Not much is certain in regard to the College Football Playoff as losses by three of the top four teams could dramatically change the championship landscape. And at least one of those three is in serious trouble if the latest 2015 Championship Week Point Spreads are correct.
The Big Ten Championship Game, which features No. 4 Iowa and No. 5 Michigan State, will likely solidify a CFP spot for the victor and the odds makers expect that to be the Spartans. The undefeated Hawkeyes are drawing a +4 line in the championship showdown, which is scheduled to get underway at 7:00 pm ET on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis (FOX).
Iowa holds a 17-10-1 advantage in the all-time series, in spite of losing two of its last three against Michigan State. It has also covered the number in nine of its last 12 meetings with the Spartans.
The ACC title game also holds great intrigue as No. 1 Clemson, which has held the top spot in the CFP rankings since they debuted in Week 10, could find itself on the outside looking in with a loss. No. 10 North Carolina, a winner of 11 straight, will attempt to derail the Tigers and, potentially, secure a playoff berth of its own.
No. 3 Oklahoma is idle, but the Sooners place in the CFP is seemingly secure after they wrapped up the Big 12 title last weekend. Oklahoma smacked No. 11 Oklahoma State 58-23 in Stillwater to take the league crown.
No. 2 Alabama is in action; however, their position, like Oklahoma’s, is not expected to change much. The Crimson Tide are a huge 18-point favorite over SEC East champion Florida. Nick Saban’s squad has won in its four most recent clashes with the Gators and it is 9-1-2 against the spread in its last 12 meetings with Florida.
Also seeking conference championships this weekend are No. 7 Stanford, No. 19 Houston, Bowling Green, Western Kentucky and San Diego State. The Cardinal are lined as a five-point favorite over No. 20 USC while the Cougars, Falcons, Hilltoppers and Aztecs are favored at -6.5, -12, -7.5 and -5, respectively.
