The Arkansas Razorbacks lost their top running back when Darren McFadden dislocated his toe in a fight outside of a Little Rock nightclub early Monday morning. Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said he (McFadden) is “devastated”.
The Razorbacks are schedule to report to pre-season camp on Thursday August 3rd, 2006 and they officially start practicing on Saturday. Dean Weber, the teams trainer does not believe that Darren will be able to play in the season opener against the USC Trojans on September 2nd, 2006. “We will know more in about two or three weeks,” Weber commented. Running backs Felix Jones and Peyton Hillis will have to step up to replace Darren McFadden, who was named first-team All SEC last year after rushing for 1,113 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Hillis/Jones combo ran for a little over 900 yards last season. Don’t expect the Razorbacks to roll over and play dead. Arkansas wants to avenge a 70-17 lost they received last year from the high powered Trojan team that featured current NFL First Round Draft choices Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart. Houston Nutt would like to significantly improve on last year’s dismal 2-6 conference record and play their first SEC Conference game on September 16th, 2006 when they face Vanderbilt.
