Will John McCain be the Republican Party 2008 Presidential Nominee?Senator John McCain may be a candidate for President in the 2008 elections. He resides outside of Phoenix with his wife Cindy, seven children, and four grandchildren.

His political career began after he started his career as a Naval Aviator.  In 1982 he was elected to Congress representing what was then the first congressional district of Arizona. In 1986 he was elected to the United States Senate to take the place of Arizona’s great Senator Barry Goldwater.  He is now currently the senior senator of Arizona.

In 2000, he unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.  He is currently the chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, serves on the Armed Services, and Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committees.  Many believe that he will once again run for election of the presidency.  With John Mccain for president he can continue his views and beliefs.  He was held for 6 years in captivity in Vietnam which made him a national celebrity.  He strongly believes in campaign finance reform, immigration reform, and the detention of extrajudicial prisoners.
Many current polls list John McCain for President.  He is one of the leading candidates in the Republican primary.  Although he is receiving all this praise he has yet made given definitive answer as to whether he will run.  “John McCain for president” may not be a headline until 2007 which is when he has stated he’ll make a decision.  McCain will be 72 by the time the elections roll around.  This makes him 3 years older then the oldest elected president which was Ronald Reagan.  He has dismissed concerns about his age and health conditions by stating that he is doing “excellent”. His other weakness is his strained relationship with the Republican Party.  They are concerned with the fact that he would sometimes agree with Democratic views on global warming and President Bush’s 2001 tax cuts and his Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act undermines the First Amendment free speech protection.

John McCain for President many believe is not the best decision.  It’ll be a tough race because it is proposed that he will run against Hillary Clinton.  Clinton will ultimately win the votes of women who have been waiting for this moment for years.  McCain has many negatives against him and Clinton’s main positive, she is female!
