Controversial figure Neil Warnock walked back into management vowing to be as confrontational as ever as he looks to guide new club Crystal Palace to promotion to the Barclays Premier League. Crystal Palace are 66 to 1 odds to win the Championship with Bodog. The ex-Sheffield United boss has signed a deal that takes him up to the summer of 2010.
He replaces Peter Taylor at Selhurst Park in what he states will be his last management job. The 58-year-old says he has won’t be changing his animated touchline antics. He also insists that he’s not bothered who he might offend with his management style and that includes his new chairman Simon Jordan.
"That's part of who I am. I don't see how I can change that at this time in my career. A leopard can't change its spots," said Warnock. "I think there might be one or two games where I don't get some decisions going for me - from people who have read my book! Although certain people dislike me I think too many people sit on the fence. I think it's great to say it how it is, although I might have overstepped the mark a few times. Throughout my career, if you asked managers in the same division who they didn't want to play against I'd be high on their list. I've never had to worry about who my friends are. The only thing I worry about is pleasing the supporters."
It may surprise many to discover that Warnock and Jordan are old friends. They first met when Jordan took offence to Warnock's role in a suggested player-exchange involving Clinton Morrison and Marcus Bent back in 2000.
"He threatened to sue me," said Warnock. "Simon and I have spoken every week for a number of years now. It can be difficult to go and work for somebody you know as a friend, and managers and chairmen do have disagreements."
Will the duo form the perfect combination? Point-Spreads.com wouldn’t advise any readers to go rushing in to back the Eagles any time soon! Get the latest European Football betting odds at Bodog.
